Stretch sleeves are a unique label solution that uses low density polyethylene (LDPE), to present product information. LDPE is highly elastic, and stretch sleeve labels made from this material actually hold on to product packaging through its own natural elasticity. This means that stretch sleeve labels do not use any adhesive, solvents, or heat to cling to a product, reducing its impact on the environment and giving brands a cost-effective label solution.
Stretch sleeve labels are used in multiple industries, from household goods to harsh chemical packaging. Stretch sleeves are commonly seen on bulk chemical containers, such as one gallon industrial cleaners or jugs of bleach. These products often utilize stretch sleeve labeling because the LDPE material is resistant to most harsh chemicals, and with the absence of adhesive the label will not peel or fall off over time -- the label needs to be able to resist any damaging effects that may result in leakage or spills.
Stretch sleeve labels is one of the most cost-effective label solutions on the market with most brands cutting costs by around 40% compared to using shrink sleeve labeling. Stretch sleeve labels are easy to apply, do not use heat or solvents, and are 100% recyclable. They also allow for 360 degree coverage and offer a longer shelf life.
Stretch sleeve labels may be a more economical label solution compared to PCLs, ECLs, and shrink sleeves, but with that come some drawbacks. Stretch sleeve labels are generally the least durable out of all the label solutions. Because stretch sleeve labels are applied using the label material's natural elasticity, it has a higher chance of loosening contact with the product package and usually not fully secured to the package.
Stretch sleeve labels do require special equipment to apply. Stretch sleeve labels are also limited in shape and will not work for all package types.
